Why This is Important n Center for Health, Environment & Justice Report, Building Safe Schools (2005) –5 States have policies prohibiting schools on contaminated sites –9 State prohibit siting schools close to sources of pollution (ie. heavy industry) –21 state “suggest” avoid siting schools on/ near contamination –5 states require cleanup before siting school on contaminated site n High Density Population –4200 Licensed day care centers in NJ –Over 4800 in Michigan Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, PC
