Physical Features The soil in the Middle Colonies was great for farming and very rich. When the glaciers melted, they dropped fertile soil on the area’s rolling hills and valleys. The climate is warm. The days are sunny and the growing season is longer than the New England’s. The bodies of water are mostly rivers. They were for transportation. Rivers like the Delaware and the Hudson River. One natural resources in the Middle Colonies was a fall line. The line where rivers higher land flow to lower land and often form waterfall.

Climate/growing season The climate of the Middle colonies was sunny and rainy most of the time and the winters were warmer than the ones in New England. The growing season longer than they were in new England.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN Benjamin franklin was a inventor. Thanks to Benjamin Franklin he made the battery. Ben’s experiments with electricity led to the creation of the first battery. It could store electricity for later use. Ben franklin made the lightning rod. A lightning rod is a metal rod attached to the roof of a building. When lightning hits the electricity flows safely in the ground

William Penn Pennsylvania and Delaware was founded William Penn. He founded Pennsylvania so people could worship freely. William Penn was a Quaker. He was also friendly with Indians. He showed courage by going to a new place he did not know about alone. He showed patriotism by starting a two new states and got people to come to Pennsylnia and Delaware when know new it was safe.

Large land owners The colonies which are New York and New Jersey belonged to English land owners. James, the Duke of York owned New York before he gave the rest to his two friends John Berkeley and George Carteret.

Farmers The farmers in the middle colonies had good crops. They grew a lot because they had such rich soil. The farmers grew lots of wheat and made lots of bread. They grew so much wheat they were known as the “bread basket” colonies.

Artisans An artisan is someone who was skilled by making hand-made things to sell to make money because some people were very poor then. The things they hand-made were silver, spoons, wooden chairs….etc. Men became artisans thru becoming an apprentice. An apprentice is someone who studies with a master to learn a skill or business but they don’t get paid.

Women Women did a lot of house work. They did sewing, cooking and cleaning. They raised their children they made money by selling things like butter and washing clothes. They also made the food for their family.

Indentured servants Indentured servants were people who wanted to have money to go some where but they didn’t have the money. Someone paid for their trip but in return they had to word for a certain period of time.

Slaves Slaves were workers who were captured and sold into slavery. Slaves could be children, men and women. Slaves were anyone who could work. Slaves had to work the land as long as their lives.

Native Americans The Native Americans made a treaty with one of the tribes. The tribes name was Lemi Lenape. The Middle Colonies made a treaty with one of the tribes. The name of the tribe was Iroquois.
