1 Global Sun Project Freehold Middle School Miss Hewish’s 5 and 6 period classes

2 Hello, we go to Freehold Intermediate School, and we are in seventh grade. F.I.S is located in Freehold, New Jersey. Our exact location is at 40.3 degrees latitude and 74.3 degrees longitude. F.I.S

3 The Basics Our school along with many other schools around the country wanted to compare data about our weather. Everyday our teacher would first give us the time that the sun rose and the time that it would set that day. (she got it from a regular weather site) Then we would calculate how many minutes of sun we would have that day. We would write down the minutes on a data sheet we had. Then in order to find our daily temperature we would go outside every day after we found the minutes( which was about 11:30 a.m.) and would take the temperature. We used Celsius degrees to record our findings. This process went on every day for a week.

4 Our Findings From out data we found that some areas around the world have a higher average temperature than others. This was caused by two things. On was their position towards the equator. If they were closer to it there temperature would be warmer. Also, it depended on what season they were in. Additionally, we found that some places have a higher amount of average minutes of sunlight than others. This was due to the position of the earth and the sun. If the earth was in the stage where the top was tilted towards the sun then locations near the top of the earth would receive more sunlight and visa versa.
