5 The thing that makes Dana Elementary innovative and unique is that it’s instruction and education is included in their shared goals and values. Dana dedicates their education model to making collaborative data-based plans that support the individual students growth. Their day to day instructions is guided by the initiatives that they implement and driven forward by their School Improvement Plan. Dana’s goal is to provide a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where their students can become proficient in all the content areas as well as the 21 st century skills.

7  Dana elementary is a school that strives to have a comprehensive approach to education. They implement different curriculum for the entire school so that they can provide cohesion as well as unity for all grade levels as their students progress and get older. 12  Literacy Block is when students have a 25 minute break between homeroom and first period that they devote to reading Monday-Thursday. It is structures for reading practices to improve achievement and reinforce the value of reading for all students. A research based reading intervention is provided at this particular time with special activities that are designed to help readers progress to the next level. The reading enrichment includes Art Literacy, Civic and Global Issues, Computer Literacy, Health and Nutrition, Jazz Literacy and Sports Literacy.  Battle of the Books: Where students read a variety of books and compete in teams to answer the most question about what they read  Beards for Food and Angel Tree: Students, parents, and teachers provide food and gifts for families in need within the school for the Holidays.  Friday Clubs: On Friday’s students have the opportunity to participate I different clubs such as Art, Bel Canto, chess, Drama, Gardening, and Wii Fitness.  Middle School 101: During the summer, rising 6 th grade students have the opportunity to rotate through different sessions such as Habits of Highly Effective Teens and opening a locker.  Odyssey of the Mind: The team members will be able to use creativity to solve problems and to be able to be present at competitions.  Technology Student Association: Students will be able to solve problems using science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  WEB: Where Everybody Belongs: Eight grade student mentors work with small groups of 6 th graders throughout the entire school year

15 The thing that makes Bate Middle School innovative and unique is their focus on 21 st century skills. They implement an innovative approach that prepares students for future careers and to prepare them for college through their innovative approaches and programs. Bates Middle School demonstrates real world experiences with their students as well as implementing critical thinking skills and communication skills. The skills that they offer their students give them the opportunity to find their desire and interest so that they will have a strong outcome for their future endeavors.

16 At Bate Middle School, the School Improvement Plan is designed to improve the schools instruction as well as the schools climate and organization. The regular core academic courses are not the only courses that Bate offers. They offer Accelerated Reading and Math, French, and Spanish. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in different extracurricular activities. Bate has a full-time curriculum and Technology Resource Teacher that will assist the teachers with implementing technology into their day to day instructions
