10 Built in the 7 th or 8 th century, enlarged in the 11 th or 12 th century This Tower is the symbol of Baku. The 32 meter Tower is one of the beautiful and mysterious architectural monuments in Baku. There are a lot of legends about the Tower. From the top of the tower you can see the inner city within the fortress walls.

11 Built in the 15-16 th centuries This palace was the most prominent architectural complex in the medieval city. After the earthquake the capital moved from Shemakha to Baku and the shah built this palace. This palace built in the 15 th century by Halilullah I, the palace remained untouched for a hundred years. In the complex you can see the 14 th century Bei-Kubad Madrassa Mosque.

12 In December 2000 this monument became the first site in Azerbaijan classified as world heritage by UNESCO. Most of the walls and towers survive. You can climb there near Kileli Mosque.

13 Built 18 th century This temple means “home of fire”, is in the village of Surakhany, 15 km from Baku. They say these ancient fires gave Azerbaijan its name, which means “a land of fires”. The inscriptions on stones set in the walls, made in Sanskrit and Hindi, testify to the Indian origin of the fire- worshippers temple at Surakhany. Today the temple is a unique monuments of world culture.
