11 A man or woman who earns his/her livelihood by begging from street to street is called a street beggar. A street beggar is a familiar figure in the towns, cities or rural areas. Who is a street beggar ? Are you familiar with them ?

12 Where do you see them ? What do you know about their dresses ? How do they beg ? Individual Work

13 Where do we see him/her ? He/she is generally seen at the railway station, bus station, lunch and steamer ghats and other public gathering places.

14 A Street beggar is a familiar figure in the town and village. He/she wears torn and dirty dresses. A street beggar may be male or female young or old weak or strong or physically handicap. He/she is usually seen to beg standing by the roadside, railway stations, lunch and steamer ghats, market place and other public gathering places.

15 How do they beg and attract the passers by? Sometimes they beg separately and sometimes they beg in group uttering religious words or singing religious song to draw the attention of the givers.

16 Where does he/she live ? What do you know about his life ? He/she lives in a slum or a hut or stations and some lives footpath of the roads. He/she gets up early in the morning and goes out in search of begging.He /she takes dirty food.He/she does not bother what he/she takes. Thus he/she leads a very subhuman life.

17 Do you support begging? Is begging the most disreputable work? What should our government do to solve this problem? Group Work

18 Begging is not an employment. It does not give anything good to society. It is a social curse. It is a very shameful and disgraceful work. A beggar does not claim any dignity to society. He/she depends only the charity of other. Nobody respects a beggar.

19 What should our government do to solve this problem ? As begging encourages idleness and immorality. Our government should take necessary steps to uproot such kind of disgraceful habit from the country as soon as possible. In this regard our government should rehabilitate the beggars and introduce allowance for them.
