2 Why is this important? Impact on children can be catastrophic: affects emotional well-being, behaviour, attainment, long term life chances The younger the child the greater the risk No shared approach across the Thames Valley: potential ‘postcode lottery’

3 Funding & consortium PCC bid successfully for £123,000 to develop: one to one and group therapeutic support to meet the needs of each age group a continuum of programmes, and shared service standards, across Thames Valley locally accessible and where possible sustainable Consortium of 8 agencies Aylesbury Women's Aid, Berkshire Women’s Aid, DASH, MK Act, ODAS, Reducing the Risk, SAFE!, Wycombe Women’s Aid

4 The challenge How best to ensure effective investment of funding so that children and young people across the Thames Valley can access quality, age appropriate, and, where possible, sustainable services to help them recover working to a 6 month time period

5 Consortium actions Agree core standards Scope current activity Agree portfolio of programmes Identify gaps: - need for service in Bracknell, early years service, specific expertise in work with boys Agree approach to training staff in programme delivery Commitment to share good practice

6 Criteria for decisions Projects chosen which met core standards and at least one - and preferably more - of these criteria: building on current capacity filling gaps enhancing specialist projects investment in long term benefits investment in quality assurance piloting and strengthening pathways

7 14 projects funded 3 training for staff 4 direct support 7 specific local needs / new innovative approaches

8 Training & direct delivery Multi-agency training: DAY programme (young people) and forum for trainers 2 x training to deliver community based groups for children & parents Training in therapeutic play for school staff and Children and Family teams Therapeutic play: groups for mothers and for children Groups for mothers re children’s needs Specialised primary work in Bracknell Programme for teenage girls

9 Innovation Specialist practice Bounce Back for Kids specialist post Development of specialist post – working with young boys Sunrise multi cultural centre, quality assurance and innovation Therapeutic facilities for refuges Consortium project – work with preschool age children Counselling for young carers
