Monday Sept 15 Objective: Grade sample projects with rubric and work on project. Checkpoint: What is the molecular mass of CO 2 ? Draw a picture of it. What is the molecular mass of KOH? Draw a picture of it. HW: Work on project

16.00 x 2 = 32.00 12.01 12.01 + 32.00 = 44.01 AMU

39.10 + 16.00 + 1.01 = 56.11 AMU

Sample Project 1 Claim: The model minimizes heat absorption because of the large river that runs through the city and the light colored buildings. Evidence: 1)Beige paint versus blue paint 2)Swimming pool versus concrete 3)Grass versus concrete 4)Shade versus sun 5)Buildings are spaced out (outside research) Reasoning: The combination of light colored buildings, water, shade, and distance between buildings will create a cooler climate.

Sample Project 2
7
Claim: This is a model of my school that reduces heat absorption through buildings made of concrete, lots of shade, and blue colored paint. Evidence: 1)Concrete versus brick 2)Trees make things cooler? 3)Blue colored paint makes things cooler? 4)Black asphalt is too hot. Reasoning: As you can see, my model school is the best at minimizing heat absorption because the materials I have chosen do not absorb much heat, which will create a cooler campus for all.

Model City/School Project (due Friday)
9
Last minute data collection!
10
What color paint for the buildings would be the coolest? What material should your buildings be made of? Concrete or asphalt? How much grass or trees? Lakes and rivers? Brainstorm your model city or school Project due next Friday!
