3 IN A NUTSHELL A Catholic Student Center established in July of 2008 by Fr. Martin Okafor-Ilozue, CSSp belonging to the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans). It is established to foster a renewed zeal of Christian living among young adults in the spirituality of Fr. Claude Poullart des Places, who as a young man, formed a group who live together in a boarding house, that later became a missionary Congregation. It is an off the Campus youth ministry and the target is college students who study in the schools in the City Center of Cebu. It is open to all and will cater for the spiritual formation of college students, mainly those who live away from families and are staying in boarding houses. It will be used as a place for vocation promotion to the Spiritan Family, Religious, and lay. LOCATION The Center is at suite #303, inside a three story apartment/office building belonging to J. King & Sons Company, Inc. Located along T. Padilla Street, Cebu. It has two bedrooms and a sitting room with toilet facility. It will be used as an office, library, and meeting place. Masses will also be celebrated for students of different small groupings, and other religious and prayerful activities will be carried out in the same venue, like Justice and Peace, Integrity of Creation, option for the poor, and etc. Opportunity will be provided for counselling, reconciliation, and one-on-one discussion between the staff and the students. ACTIVITIES IN THE CENTER The Center will promote leadership qualities among the students, mostly at this critical stage in Philippine history, where political leaders are found wanting and giving wrong impressions to young minds, and also sense of Justice, peace, and integrity of creation will be imparted. It will be having outreach programs to schools and boarding houses where students live. It will be a Center (Office) but having activities and programs in schools located in the area. It will be open to all youth groups who may want to have closer guidance from the Church and learn more about their Christian faith. The Center will concentrate on outreach programs to students living in the squatter area of T. Padilla street, boarding houses, and schools in the same area. It will make use of the services of paid lay staff and student volunteers in its day-to-day operation and the organization of the place, and will be organizing retreats, recollections, and learning activities for the students, which include bible study, Catechism, Justice and Peace, and the Integrity of creation. It will develop a holistic approach to life in order to help the students in appreciating the essence of living by being closer to God and the Church, in most part, using the Spirituality of our founders. There will also be social organizations determined by the choice of the students, but will be guided by the staff of the center. It will periodically organize sports fests for students in order to help them appreciate the value of sports and exercise. Students will be encouraged to join different camping programs, with the written permission of their parents or guardians. In addition, with the demand from the Congregation, it will be used as base for research in Spiritan Spirituality in the Philippines and office for the Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation. Fr. Okafor-Ilozue Martin, CSSP
