Reaching youth with RH services through outreach “Two days model” Implemented in Tanga, Coast and Mtwara regions Two days at each site The first day is mainly demand generation for youth & People with disability Package include FP, STI and HIV testing Service providers trained in YFS Youth Volunteers are part of community mobilizers

4 SLIDE 4 Demand generation One week before: The District Based Community mobilizer visit the site for: Information on the outreach visit to the host facility, community leaders, youth CBOs and schools Selection of volunteers (+ youth) in collaboration with SPs and community leaders Posting of information posters with YFS messages. Mapping and selection of venue for video show Day one Edutainment e.g. through Video show – accompanied by health talks for demand generation, Information and building of relationship with SPs Dialogue with parents, teachers, and youth group leaders on the services. Announcement (+ youth messages) though megaphone.

6 SLIDE 6 Results: Video show is attracting youth to the information then linked to the services The % of youth (< 25 yrs) accessing FP services increased from 38% during 2012/13 to 43% during 2013/14. Noted increase of youth accessing RH services

8 SLIDE 8 Challenges Number of > 20 yrs youth accessing services is low High demand of condom Vs supply. Inadequate reagents for VCT testing at field level. The guideline on provision of FP information and services to in school youth still not clear to teachers and some of the SPs. Mtwara youth demanding condom from SPs

MST Client Advisory Committee : ‘Youth perspectives as a changeagent’ Overall goal: Build youth client perspective directly into programming, evaluation and improvement of quality of care/service delivery based on CAC. 2014 Innovations Fund Objectives To empower youth clients to set their own priorities, participate in health system management, and to shape the system through continuously monitoring of the quality of services delivery by service providers Better understand youth needs and expectations of the services we provide To understand youth clients' opinion of the services they receive from MST and the way these services are provided. Sharing information between clients and service providers

10 SLIDE 10 CAC is a 1 year innovation project established in Kinondoni and Ilala districts in Dar es Salam region. 15 youth were recruited and work in; – Mwenge MST clinic and – Msongola and Chanika government health facilities. 2014 Innovations Fund Where CAC is established

Conduct exit interviews, discussions, and chat with FP clients to collect their views on service quality Engage in interventions to ensure evidence is applies successfully in addressing problems Communicate and share relevant information with youth clients and service providers 2014 Innovations Fund

12 SLIDE 12 3. Chagua Maisha Campaign

13 SLIDE 13 Campaign channels University / VETA Activations- MST partners with different universities to provide family planning and RH exhibition and health education to university students. Communications activities and SRH services are provided via a gazebo set in the university premises. Other activities include taking photo on chagua maisha photo booth and social media photo competition. CBMs are used to distribute information brochures and service vouchers. Multi-media - FACEBOOK – more than 2500 followers - Maanisha “Terminal” radio program - Magazines Events – Nyama choma, Kili marathon, Sauti za busara, Miss Tanzania (Chang’ombe and main event), International youth day, World Contraception day, World Population day, launches etc
