All rights reserved. 2 of 7 Electrical materials and components Flex Flexible cables are those in which the conductor is multi-stranded with very fine wire. This makes the cable very flexible, enabling it to absorb vibration and movement. There are many types of flexible cable: Two- and three-core PVC flex (used for lighting pendants and fixed equipment) High-temperature flex (used for heating equipment such as immersion heaters) External, or arctic, flex (used on building sites etc)

All rights reserved. 3 of 7 Electrical materials and components Ceiling Rose A ceiling rose is fixed to the ceiling by woodscrews or plaster board fixings Lamp holder These may be bayonet cap (BC) or Edison screw (ES). Bi-pin holders used in some fittings are usually pre-wired. The ceiling rose, flex and lampholder combination are known as a pendant.
