7 So what does that mean? Good leaders know that motivated members are involved members! MOTIVATION = RETENTION Motivating, involving and rewarding your members means keeping your members.

9 Growth For members to have the chance to grow, they must be given opportunities to grow as a person. 10 Recognition Everyone likes to be recognized for the work they have done. Don’t forget to let your members know that they are appreciated for the work that they do. Ways to recognize members include: Naming a “Member of the Month” Naming a “Member of the Month” Writing thank-you notes Writing thank-you notes Giving small tokens of appreciation Giving small tokens of appreciation End of the Year/Semester Celebrations End of the Year/Semester Celebrations

12 Achievement There is nothing better than working on a project from start to finish and gaining a sense of accomplishment. Your members need to feel that they played a part in the overall achievement of the group. 13 Participation No matter how busy we all are, everyone needs time to socialize. Being a member of an organization is a great way to participate in out-of- class activities and make new friends. 14 Enjoyment There’s nothing better than hanging out with a group of people you like and planning events you enjoy!
