Krakatau By: Conrad Donau Lauridsen.

Eruption. The eruption that took place on Krakatau, August 26 th 1883, was one of the most violent volcano eruptions ever recorded in history. The explosion was heard more than 3000 miles away, and fine dust was spread in the air as far as to New York city.

Effects. The effects following the eruptions were the most deadly, there were tsunamis some of them of nearly 40 meters in height. On the coastal cities of Indonesia, 36.000 people were killed by tsunamis and what not. Dust was blown into the air affecting sunlight and the weather for several years.

Before and After the eruption. This is the actual eruption, sadly it’s hard to get many pictures of before the eruption since the cameras weren’t very good back then. And this, is after the eruption. That’s what most of the island looks like, dead and grey. Obviously there will grow more plants on it with time, but right now it’s looks like that

Benefits of living near volcanoes. As well as all the dangers of living near them, living near volcanoes also has its benefits. For example, you might be able to find precious gems and metals, or your soil will be fertile (which I personally don’t really understand since the land of the Krakatau island was still grey for over a century) and also there is the whole tourist attraction part, rather than being a fisherman, you can live off showing tourists your home!

Thank You Very Much!
