11 Recovery from the Earthquake
12
12 LINAC Immediately after the Earthquake After recovery The road rose up Ground water of 100 ton came into LINAC tunnel :: alert for submergence The ground droped down with 1.5 m Water was discharged
13
13 3 GeV Synchrotron (RCS) The capacitor bank collapsed new old Immediately after the earthquake: there were road winding and landslid The stage of power supply was bent. Lifted up
14
14 50 GeV Synchrotron (MR) Amplified x2000 20 mm 0.6 mm Height horizontal vertical Maximum 20 mm displacement (horizontal) and 8 mm (vertical) for 400 magnets Beam line distorted seriously All adjusted to within 0.4 mm.
15
15 Materials & Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) Immediately after the Earthquake Re-stacking all blocks 530 pieces and 2800 tons in total (Experimental Halls) West Extended Building Subsided ~20 cm There were no severe damages in the MLF main building. Piling into basement rock Dislocated a lot! The entire annex building was jacked up.
16
16 Neutrino & Hadron Experimental Facilities An outdoor unit leaned. The ground sank. recovered Fixed

19 Resuming User Operation
20
20 History of beam power (3GeV RCS) 280 kW on June 29 200 kW Restored the J-PARC from the Great East Japan Earthquake within a year. Smooth recovery has been achieved
21
21 Trend of Number of Proposals Affiliation of approved proposals (General Use) Very high fractional ratio of industrial applications Neutron and Muon User Program Increase of proposals
22
22 Recent Results 10 electron neutrino candidates are detected Expected BG ( 13 =0) is estimated to be 2.73±0.37 evts Probability to observe >=10 evts w/ 13 =0 is 0.08% (3.2 ) –C.f. 0.7% (2.5 ) in 2011 Evidence of ELECTRON NEUTRINO APPEARANCE Reported at the IIV International Conference on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics (Neutrino2012)
23
23 Summary Quick recovery for the earthquake –Facility and beam is on. –User operation resumed. Stable operation since then –Till now, 3GeV 200kW, even 300kW at MLF, –Keeping 8 cycle user time, –In 2013, preparatory work for 1MW at RCS will be shceduled.
24
24 Govrnment review and 5year plans After previous review 5 years ago The great east Japan earth quake Next 5 years plan and priority 2012 March to June
25
25 Accelerator and neutrino : Power –RCS 1 MW –MR 750kW ( MR Power supply improvement ) Neutron –New BL (JAEA 3, KEK 1), Computer, Sample environment Muon –New S-line ( SR) and H-line (g-2, EDM) ハドロン –High momentum beam line + COMET ( ->e) ADS(Accelerator Driven Nuclear Transmutation) Facility buildings –User main building, Radioactive materials storage, Lodging Clear prioritize is needed Red = JAEA Blue = KEK High priority demands from now Keeping budget for 200 days operation is critical key. * cost rise is headache.
26
26 Near term operation schedule
27
27 FY2012 operation schedule As many as possible, provide user time 8 cycles (~ 180 days ) From October, RCS for MLF :>300kW MR for FS >200kW for SX>10kW To keep machine time as much as for 5 s of neutrino events. Continue operation regardless of the new year holiday
28
28 Installation and tests of all needed for 1MW: 400 MeV LINAC 1MW Ion source, RFQ 132 days user operation time FY2013 operation schedule Trying to keep enough machine time for 5 s statistics of neutrino events!! Operate by the end of July even it is Summer time!! Time Shift Cost pushing
29
29 Promise J-PARC is the facility to get as much value you can in your science. Thank you very much for your attention!
