5 Parent Forum Purpose is to gain parent input on the following for SY17: Parent Forum ( 2X)…Due March 31, 2016 Compacts Parent Policy Parental Involvement Budget School-wide Improvement Plan

6 Parent Forum Invitation to Participate Response Form Agenda Power Point Feedback forms (3) – Compact, Policy & Plan Sign- In Sheet Advertise in at least 2 ways beginning 2 weeks ahead of time. Hold meeting at 2 different times

8 School-Parent Compacts Section 1118 (d) – each Title 1 school shall- jointly develop with parents of all children served under Tile 1 a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.

10 Revising Compacts Each grade level/ department: Looks at parent feedback from Parent Forum Look at parent Annual Evaluation Survey results Ask students for feedback on grade level compacts Discusses revisions based on grade level data Draft due to Program Manager – May 9, 2016 Invite your Program Manager to conduct a PLC with each grade level at your school

11 School – Parent Compacts Tips for Ensuring Content is Linked to Learning Link district, school ( SWP) and grade level goals to teacher/ parent/ student goals Concentrate on 1-2 identified focus areas Show how the teacher is supporting the parent in working with the student at home Look at sample provided and discuss!

12 Parent Policy Section 1118 (b) (1) - Each school served under this part shall jointly develop with, and distribute to, parents of participating children a written parental involvement policy, agreed on by such parents, that shall describe the means for carrying out the requirements of subsections (c) –(f) Parents shall be notified of the policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, provided in a language parents can understand. 13 Reservation of Parental Involvement Funds Section 118 (a)(3)(B) – parents of children receiving Title 1 services shall be involved in the decisions regarding how reserved funds are allotted for parental involvement activities. Parents must be able to provide their input into how parental involvement funds are spend, not just approve the involvement budget developed by the school

14 Annual Evaluation Survey… Due April 30, 2016 Section 1118(a)(2)(E) describes how the LEA will – conduct, with the involvement of parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy in improving the academic quality of the schools served under this part, including identifying barriers to greater participation by parents in activities authorized by this section, and use the findings of such evaluations to design strategies for more effective parental involvement, and to revise if necessary, the parental involvement polices described in this section.
