ACTION RESEARCH PLAN Master’s of Teaching and Learning with Technology E-Portfolio Zenneah Jenkins Ashford University
2
Area of Focus The purpose of my study is to determine the psychological effects on students being in an all boy school and how these effects contribute to student behavior.
3
Explanation of Problem Students lack social skills Students lack proper behavior skills. Students are becoming bullies Students are filled with anger Students are destructive
4
Variables Students ages five to sixteen. Twelve students One-Two students from each grade level. (K-9) Boys
5
Research Questions I.What are some reasons why boys do not like the all boy school? II.What are some reasons students are violent, defiant, aggressive and destructive toward students, staff, parents and teachers? III.What can the school do to help students have a better experience in the school?
6
Locus of Control According to the text written by Geoffrey Mills, “An area of focus is something within my locus of control, something I feel passionate about and something I would like to change or improve” (pg. 43). With the help of parents, teachers, administration and the will of the students I believe that we can change the behavior and the perception student’s have of their school, but we have to work together.
7
Intervention/Innovation Two warnings Moved around in the classroom Removed from the classroom for a timeout Given silent lunch Given a demerit in the system which could lead to suspension Phone call home No recess

Data Collection Research Questions Data Collection ToolWhy this tool? Justify its use in your study. How does it match with what you are attempting to find and to measure? 1.Why do boys at my school not like being at an all boy school? Attitude Scale The attitude scale is a great tool to use because it provides quantitative data that will tell me how the kids feel about their school. It will also tell me how their attitude is affected by being at school. 1.Why are boys so angry when they are at school? Interviews An informal ethnographic interview will allow me to obtain the information I need without disrupting instruction. These interviews will include prompts in a form of a casual conversation. This method will help me collect qualitative and informative data. 1.Why do the boys destroy school property? Journals Journals are a qualitative data collection method that will allow students to write what they think about their school, how they feel, what they see, and make suggestions that will help me to better understand why boys feel angry and destructive at school. I plan to collect data by interviewing students for qualitative data and conducting an attitude scale test by asking a series of questions and mark answers as tally marks for the quantitative data.
