My mother saved all the newspapers regarding the death of Diana because she thought we would appreciate the history of it. I was three and remember waking up to the news on holiday in Newcastle.

The newspaper details the written aspect of the funeral. There are many photographs of the day of the funeral. Human interest: people have sent in their own messages of condolence

The text shows a nation in mourning “Mourning unites a divided City” talking about London. The photographs show the amount of people effected by the death. Elton John included in the funeral service as personal friend “Elton’s song brings tears”.

Brother of Diana - Earl Spencer vows to protect children. Is this a reference to what happened to Diana? “Brother vows to protect children”. Letters sent in did not agree with the hype surrounding the death. One person wrote in “have we all taken leave of our senses?”

An historian would want to delve deeper than just a memorial piece if they wanted to find out more about the Princesses death. The paper tells little about what is happening in the rest of the world. Mother Teresa’s death only takes up half a page.
