Joint Campus Name Suggestions By The House Team

 Before Christmas the Pupil Council were asked to present information to each and every class about proposals for a new school.

 There were two possible outcomes:  1) A joint faith campus – a new denominational school with Calderwood Lodge at Waterfoot Road  2) A new denominational school to be built at Maidenhill

 All pupils had the opportunity to fill out a ballot paper saying how they felt about the proposals.  Pupils also had an opportunity to ask questions of the Pupil Council during their presentation.  Lastly, pupils also had the chance to speak to educational advisors and about their thoughts and questions on the possibility of a new school.

 In addition to this the House Team organised a whole school project to encourage each stage to research Saints, old and new, for a potential name for the new school. School Project

 St Andrew  St Francis  St Anthony  St Vincent de Paul  St Patrick  St Elizabeth  St Mirin and many more… School names suggested by pupils

Each Saint was chosen because the children identified qualities which they admired and found inspirational. The following slides show some of the entries.

 Some of the Primary 1 children chose St Nicholas as their favourite Saint. Their reasons for their choice are:  He dedicated his life to serving God.  He gave generously to those in need.  He loved children.  St Nicholas reminds us to be good and kind to each other.  And probably most importantly… he’s Santa! St Nicholas

St Anthony was chosen by some of the children in Primary 2.  He was a powerful preacher/teacher.  He is one of the most popular Saints in the Catholic Church.  He wanted to be a monk and teach the Catholic faith in a simple way. St Anthony

Some of the children in Primary 3 chose St Veronica as their favourite Saint.  She was a friend and follower of Jesus.  She cared for Jesus so much that she disobeyed the guards and wiped Jesus’ face with a cloth when he was carrying the cross.  St Veronica is remembered for her act of great kindness. St Veronica

St Vincent De Paul  St. Vincent De Paul is the Patron Saint of charity.  He was a teacher.  He helped the poor and started many charities.  He opened hospitals and homes for orphans and old people. He collected large sums of money for poor areas and sent missionaries to many countries. After mass each Sunday, members of The St Vincent De Paul Society collect money to be distributed amongst those in need in the local Parish.

Some of the Primary 4 children chose St Patrick as their inspiration for the following reasons:  St. Patrick is one of the most popular Saints.  He was born in Scotland but taken as a slave to Ireland when he was 14 or 15. He became a priest and began to preach to the people there.  God gave him the courage and the patience to lead a nation back to God. St Patrick

Saint John Paul II Some of the children in Primary 5 chose Saint John Paul II for the following reasons:  He was an advocate for human rights and used his influence for political change.  He was well regarded for his contributions to the church.  His wish was to ‘place his Church at the heart of a new religious alliance that would bring together Jews, Muslims and Christians’.

St Mirin Some of the children in Primary 6 chose St Mirin for the following reasons:  St Mirin’s Cathedral is named in his honour. This is where Primary Seven pupils make their Confirmation.  He founded the first Church in Paisley.  No other school in Paisley Diocese is named after him since the closure of St Mirin’s High.  Monsigneur Tom and Mr McLaughlin both attended schools called St Mirin’s!

St Francis of Assisi  Primary 7 have been researching Saints they have found inspirational as part of their preparation for Confirmation. St Francis of Assisi was one of their choices. Their reasons included:  He followed all that Jesus said and did so joyfully and without fear.  He helped those in need, just as Jesus asked him.  He devoted his life to preaching God’s word.

Thank you!  We hope you enjoyed our presentation and we would really appreciate your opinion.  What did you think of our suggestions?
