Courses for All English Math Science U.S. History

Three Elective Courses You may choose athletics or a physical education class, but it is NOT required unless you delayed your middle school requirement of one PE course in 7 th grade. Health/Teen Leadership will take one spot if you delayed that requirement. A remediation class for math and/or reading will replace elective(s) if STAAR standard is not met.

Electives Indicate the order of preference for your elective classes by numbering them 1-2-3-4-5. Only 3 electives will be put in your schedule. Be happy with 4 and 5 because they might end up in your schedule.

If you decide to take a Pre-AP class, it will involve a heavy homework load and more challenging course material. ___PRE-AP ENGLISH ___PRE-AP SCIENCE ___PRE-AP HISTORY ___PRE-AP MATH (ALGEBRA 1)

Pre-AP Class Requirements Pre-AP Math (Algebra 1) Students must master a readiness exam that will be given at the end of 7 th grade. Algebra I is offered as a High School credit. Pre-AP Science Writing assignments required High Level Math Skills required Science Fair Participation required Pre-AP English Summer Reading required (3 books must be purchased by student) The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton—must be read BEFORE the first day of school Night by Elie Wiesel and The Ransom of Mercy Carter by Caroline B. Cooney will be read during the school year Pre-AP History Independent work required outside of class (critical thinking& in-depth analysis) History Fair Participation required

There will be informational meetings on March 25th and March 26 th for 7 th graders during their lunch-- that are interested in trying out for PALS next year. STUDENTS MUST ATTEND ONE OF THE MEETINGS. Applications will be handed out at the end of the meeting (location to be announced soon). The application due date is April 5 th. PALS

Tomorrow in tutorials, you will receive the following: A pink 8 th grade course selection sheet (also available online at MMS website) A 2013-2014 MMS Course Catalog (the catalog is also available online at the Midway Middle School website)

Registration and Schedule Pick-up Day In August – the date to be determined. Registration forms, computer use forms, and educational goal forms are completed on that day. Parent/guardian MUST attend to verify current address and contact information.

Class of 2018 Make good decisions on course selections so that you will have an enjoyable and successful 8 th grade year. Continue to work hard, develop good study habits, and ALWAYS strive to do your very best.
