To round decimals we need to understand two key points: 1. Decimal Place Value 2. Strength of Numbers

Rounding Decimals When rounding decimals, we use the same method as rounding whole numbers Round to the nearest hundreds: 6588 Round to the nearest hundredths: 6.588

Rounding Decimals Zeros in the ENDING decimal places can be “thrown out” 15.2700 **different from rounding whole #s. When rounding whole #s keep the zeros on the end Example: Round to the nearest tenth: 0.4792

Rounding Decimals Example: Round to the nearest hundredth: 3.14159 Example: Round to the nearest hundred: 4396.4315

Rounding Decimals Example: Round to the nearest WHOLE #: *the nearest whole # is the one’s place value! 38.62

Rounding Decimals Practice: a) Round to the nearest ten thousandth: 3.14159 b) Round to the nearest hundred: 365.2418 c) Round to the nearest whole number: 57.432
