3 Helping at home Listen to your child read the book in a bag. Have your child read it at least once a day and keep the book for several days before returning it. (Fluency) Use the reading strategy book mark to remind your child what to do when he/she is stuck on a word. Often the titles are tricky so helping with titles is fine. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE the sight words. Practice reading, writing, and spelling the words. *Criss Cross, Magic Finger, iPad or cell phone “texting”, Mix and Fix with magnet letters Read to your child every day! I know you have heard it before but children who are read to at home often have better speaking and writing vocabularies as well as become life long readers.

5 Helping at home Have your child write grocery lists, notes, and even simple books. Let them do their own homework. Let them edit their own writing. Do you see anything that needs fixing? Are you missing anything? Do you see any word crashes? Invented spelling is fine but you can encourage them to at least write the first and last sound. Stretch it out. Say the word. What do you hear first? What do you hear last? Play recorder/reporter.

6 Third Quarter Expectations Count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s Count forward from any given number Add numbers to sums of 10, subtract from 10 Identify, describe, and extend patterns Identify penny, nickel, dime, quarter Count a collection of pennies and/or nickels to 10 cents Tell time to the hour using and analog clock Measurement – length, height, weight, temperature – identify appropriate tool Compare objects – length, height, weight

7 10 LA centers and 5 math centers each week. Listening center, pictionary, write the room, and beginning sound sorting are done each week. Differentiation: Pictionary center is based on WS features or alphabet spinners & write the room is also WS features or a specific letter/sound. Beginning sound sorting sheet each week is review for stretching out unknown words. Sometimes it is differentiated with WS features.

8 Remember to wear proper PE shoes each day. Students should be tying their own shoelaces!

9 Ms. Teague remains with the class. Students should know their Student ID number.

10 20 minutes If classwork was not completed, the student does not participate in recess until the task is finished.

11 Dino Train – February 20 th Another field trip will take place in the spring. Location and date to be announced.

12 Special Events February 7-Dress as your favorite book character February 13 –100 th day of school (early release day 12:10) February 14-Valentine’s Day February 20-Dino Train
