2 Long Range Planning Current Action Plan Items Goal: Ensure that facilities and resources support the student population as it changes over the next five years and beyond Identify building capacities using target class sizes and space limitations of common areas Inform public of current sending zones and capacity for each elementary, middle and high school Continuously update and monitor the demographic study projections vs. actual student enrollment at each grade level Gather input from stakeholders on attitudes toward redistricting, new construction, renovations/additions

Complete a new Long Range Facilities Plan and present to the BOE and the public Determine cost of redistricting to accommodate student populations trends Investigate alternative school configurations

4 Facilities/Finance Current Action Plan Items Goal: Planning for and provision of safe, high quality, and efficiently operated facilities in alignment with the district’s mission statement and beliefs Perform a comprehensive analysis of building use to utilize for short term and long-range planning Establish an annual streamlined protocol of reporting building usage Participating in Sustainable Jersey for Schools program and creating community awareness of this initiative Incorporate energy efficiency and sustainable initiatives in the long range facility plan update process Incorporate security improvements in the update of the district’s Long Range Facility Plan

5 Facilities/Finance Current Action Plan Items Goal: Develop a long term financial plan for funding programs and facilities in alignment with the district’s mission statement and beliefs Continue to analyze self-insurance options on an annual basis for liability and health insurance coverage Expansion of shared services and partners Continued study of transportation routes to increase efficiency, including review of impact of school start/end times Pursue additional grant opportunities through the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program Analysis district advertising opportunities and corporate partnerships and determine how this will interface with booster club fundraising activities

6 Student Success Current Implementation Focus Curriculum Objective- Established consistent instructional time for all subject areas at the elementary schools district-wide 38 new or updated curricula implemented September 2015 Approximately 33 new or updated curricula to be written this school year for implementation September 2016 Created Government Law and Public Policy (GLP3) Pathway supplementing the existing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Pathway Integrating kinesthetic activities in core content areas and implementing the YMCA Healthy U Catch Program Differentiated Learning Objective- Provided professional development for multi-sensory strategies in August and September 2015 Scheduled professional development to support inclusive environments Planned grade level articulation meetings throughout this year to share instructional strategies Paraprofessional training scheduled for the 2015-2016 school year

7 Student Success Current Implementation Focus Extra Curricular Activities Working with high school guidance counselors on ways to celebrate Visual Performing Arts accomplishments and interests Increasing parental awareness of extra curricular school and community based activities (e.g.: walking clubs, Healthy U Catch Be Active Pro Camp, Father Time Program) Intervention Support Trained teachers in a variety of literacy intervention models for both reading and writing development at the elementary level Purchased materials to support elementary literacy intervention models Researching materials to support elementary mathematics intervention models Created data collection logs to track and share elementary literacy interventions Establishing lab classrooms to model writing instruction at elementary and middle school levels

8 Student Success Current Implementation Focus Parental Involvement Currently exploring way to better communicate with parents in case of an emergency or major change in routines Looking at parental involvement data and discussing ways to increase attendance Professional Development Staff members participated in Ed Camp Jersey Shore on August 28, 2015 for choice Professional Development Offered staff a choice Professional Development Day on September 4, 2015 Offered staff Professional Development in core academic areas to support new initiatives (e.g.: Fundations, Project Read, Flipped Classroom, Writing Workshop, etc.)

9 Student Success Current Implementation Focus School Climate and Culture Planning for the implementation of the NJDOE School Climate Survey for the 2015-2016 school year Working with Friendship Clubs and/or Circle of Friends Clubs to improve students’ social interactions Technology 1:1 devices issued to students in grades 3-12 Offered technology workshops to staff in September 2015 Additional technology workshops planned throughout the 2015-2016 school year Purchased technology subscriptions to resources that will support student designed learning Continue to promote Google Digital Citizenship for students and staff

10 Community Partnerships Objective: Develop social services partnerships to enrich students’ academic, social and emotional growth.. Continue to provide opportunities for staff, as appropriate, to attend activities of professional organizations that offer training, information and networking to identify accessible and appropriate mental health resources, substance abuse prevention/treatment resources and social services partnerships to assist our students and school community

11 Community Partnerships (Cont.) Support District mental health professionals (e.g., SBSSs, Guidance counselors, CST members, Nurses, SACs, etc.) to develop PGOs targeting exploration of accessible and appropriate mental health resources, substance abuse prevention/treatment resources and social services partnerships.

12 Parent Involvement Objective: Establish strong parent–school partnerships through effective methods of communication. Develop educational videos/online training modules to educate students, parents, and staff on digital literacy and citizenship (social media.) Begin review of current practices and identify types of communication to standardize communication with the school community.

13 Public Relations Objective: Work to showcase the activities and accomplishment of the District schools. Enhance the organization of the district website for easy access of resources. Middletownk12.org Middletownk12.org Explore improvements to the calendar to display school community events in a more efficient and effective manner. Investigate opportunities to hold joint events.

14 Public Relations (Cont.) Promote the understanding among community members that all of our schools offer excellence in education by providing consolidated information on student achievement, curriculum and instruction, activities and highlights of initiatives and programs in each school. MTPS Fall Newsletter.MTPS Fall Newsletter Continue to use multiple means of communication, such as local publications, newsletters, school and district websites, and social media, to promote a wide range of school events, celebrate achievements, and update the community about district initiatives. (Academic/athletic/leadership/arts)

15 BOE Meetings Objective: Enhance community and BOE relations to maintain effective governance. Explore videotaping the B.O.E. meetings for the public to view, and posting meetings on district website. Examine restructuring the Board agenda to provide and promote student comments early in the B.O.E. Workshop meeting.
