“One day Ms. Hall came in and asked us to write down something nice to do for the community. Most people said recycle but I said donate for the animal shelter. Ms. Hall knew that I really loved animals so she said, ‘Would you like to your own project with animals?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely!’ She told me I could make boxes. So I did. I asked four stores by letter, three said yes and one said no.

“I took the boxes to the stores. I checked them every two weeks. On the fourth week I picked the boxes up. Two or three days after we picked them up, I took them to the Kentucky Regional Animal Shelter in Hazard, Kentucky. When we got there I was a little shy but when we left I felt good. That day I learned hard work really does pay off!” -Kennedi

Dear Animal Shelter, Hello, my name is Kennedi. I am in fourth grade at Letcher Elementary. My class got an opportunity to do a project for the community. I decided to do my own because I love animals. I will ask business owners for permission to place donation boxes in their place of business. What is needed at your shelter? I will be naming my project Kennedi’s Kitties. I will be helping dogs also. Sincerely, Kennedi B.
