CELEBRATION OF COMPLETION John 19:28-30

This cry of Jesus from the cross was an exclamation Not a sigh of relief It was a SHOUT of VICTORY! teletestai = completion of a set goal –[I made it! I Finished it!] The Greek perfect tense gives a double emphasis to this note of victory

REJOICE WITH JESUS AT THE FULFILMENT OF PROPHESY IT IS FINISHED!

God promised A Redeemer –Satan tried to foil the promise. –God brought about the fulfillment of His promise

All of the promises of a Redeemer are fulfilled Zacharias had said that he would enter Jerusalem on a donkey. David said that he would be betrayed. Isaiah predicted that he would be barbarously treated, scourged, and executed between two malefactors. David also foretold the casting of lots for his garments & offer of vinegar. (see Psalm 22)

CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT THE RITUAL OF ANIMAL SACRIFICES WAS FINISHED! This was the Last Sacrifice!

The ritual of blood sacrifices for Atonement... can be traced all the way back to Adam. –The wages of sin is death. –But God in his mercy taught us to accept a substitute sacrifice.

Abraham would have sacrificed his son. But God provided a lamb in Isaac's place. That ended human sacrifice, It taught that God provides a substitute

The Tabernacle and Temple ritual included the sacrificial system. It was finalized at this moment on the cross. This was the preparation day for the Passover. Every family was slaying a lamb for that historic feast. –Jesus was the LAMB OF GOD. –In Him IT IS FINISHED!

ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THE PLAN OF REDEMPTION IS FINISHED! Provisionally Salvation is Complete

God’s Word explains it this way, "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly...But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” -- Rom 5:6,8

From His Word we know that, 2 Cor 5:19 "...God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them."

Christ’s atonement and resurrection made Life possible for us 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. -- Rom 6:4

God’s Word describes the goal, Col 1:22 "But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish & free from accusation..."

Jesus paid our moral debt and now offers... a relationship with himself which is –clean and –fulfilling and –eternal. But it is a conditional offer!

What is Finished is Bondage in Egypt The blood of the Passover Lamb is out ticket out of Egypt! But the Journey of Life in Fellowship with God is just begun! –There will be might acts of God –There will be lessons in trust and divine provision. –There will be opposition and divine deliverance. Symbol of enslavement in sin Jesus said, anyone who sins is a slave to sin.

EACH OF US MUST NOW ACCEPT THIS FINISHED WORK That is why whoever accepts and trust the Son gets in on everything, life complete forever! And that is also why the person who avoids and distrusts the Son is in the dark and doesn’t see life. – John 3:36 Get your shoes tied! Grab the kids and the suitcases We are free to leave Egypt!

God’s Provision for Forgiveness and Salvation was finished on the Cross that day on Calvary. God doesn’t force this on us – it’s a moral choice.

When we accept the Application of this Grace to our own heart and life We experience the reality of His finished work! What God promised is fulfilled!
