THE PPT OF THE FINAL YEAR PROJECT OF B-TECH ECE (4-TH YEAR) UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF SWARASATI SAHA,LECTURER OF DEPARTMENT OF ECE IS SUBMITTED BY- ARIJIT UPADDHAY- 08117003054 RUPAM KARMAKAR- 08117003056 AYAN PALODHY- 08117003004 DEEPTADIP PAUL- 08117003041

 Microcontroller based water level detector is a simple liquid level indicator.  This circuit works on the principle that water conducts electricity.  Initially when the tank is empty, the display will show the message VACANT. As the tank starts filling up wire at different levels get some positive voltage, due to conducting nature of water. This voltage is then fed to their corresponding pins on controller. The displays are QUARTER,MIDDLE,FULL according to the positive voltage it gains.

A microcontroller has a CPU in addition to affixed amount of RAM, ROM, I/O ports and a timer embedded all on a single chip. Some of the features that have made the 8051 popular are:- 4 KB on chip program memory. 128 bytes on chip data memory(RAM). 4 rag banks. 128 user defined software flags. 8-bit data bus 16-bit address bus 32 general purpose registers each of 8 bits 16 bit timers (usually 2, but may have more, or less). 3 internal and 2 external interrupts. Bit as well as byte addressable RAM area of 16 bytes. Four 8-bit ports, (short models have two 8-bit ports). 16-bit program counter and data pointer.

Microprocessor 1. CPU is stand-alone, RAM, ROM, I/O, timer are separate 2. designer can decide on the amount of ROM, RAM and I/O ports. 3. expansive 4. versatility 5. general-purpose Microcontroller 1.CPU, RAM, ROM, I/O and timer are all on a single chip 2.fix amount of on-chip ROM, RAM, I/O ports 3.for applications in which cost, power and space are critical 4.single-purpose Microprocessor vs. Microcontroller

RAM ROM I/O Port Timer Serial COM Port Microcontroller CPU  A smaller computer  On-chip RAM, ROM, I/O ports...  Example : Motorola’s 6811, Intel’s 8051, Zilog’s Z8 and PIC 16X A single chip Microcontroller :-

1. meeting the computing needs of the task efficiently and cost effectively speed, the amount of ROM and RAM, the number of I/O ports and timers, size, packaging, power consumption easy to upgrade cost per unit 2. availability of software development tools assemblers, debuggers, C compilers, emulator, simulator, technical support 3. wide availability and reliable sources of the microcontrollers. Three criteria in Choosing a Microcontroller

 A sensor (also called detector) is a device that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument.  Types of Sensors Acoustic, sound, vibration Automotive, transportation Chemical Electric current, electric potential, magnetic, radio Environment, weather, moisture, humidity Flow, fluid velocity Position, angle, displacement, distance, speed, acceleration Optical, light, imaging, photon Pressure Thermal, heat, temperature Proximity, presence

Level sensors detect the level of substances that flow, including liquids, slurries, granular materials, and powders. Basically two types of Level Sensors available Continuous level sensors: It measure level within a specified range and determine the exact amount of substance in a certain place. point-level sensors: It only indicate whether the substance is above or below the sensing point. Capacitive level sensors

There are different aspects of controlling the water level. There are mainly three aspects of water level control….. 1. Sensing the water level 2. Generate the control signal 3.Controlling the motor

8051 microcontroller DISPLAY BOARD(VACANT,QUARTER,HALF,FULL) F LEVEL H LEVEL L LEVEL E LEVEL As the water level in the tank increases, the LED’s corresponding to levels E1, L1, H1 and F1 will glow and the display will show the four levels E1,l1,H1,F1.

8951 microcontroller is quite compatible with 8051 microcontroller…..Here at p2.3 we will use the display system, unlike the siren.

 This water level detector circuit can be installed in big buildings where manual monitor of tanks is difficult and its indicator can be placed at some centralized place.  It can be also used in industrial purpose.
