Common Core Standards CCSS.Math.Content.2.NBT.B.6 Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.

Teacher Directions Students will use these task cards to answer each question using pencil and paper. Slide 7 has a worksheet students can use to complete this activity. After completing all task cards, students will use an iPod Touch or iPad with a QR reader app to check their answers. The QR code will display the correct answer. These fractions are not simplified as that skill has not yet been covered for this activity.

Student Directions Solve each word problem on each task card. Use the answer sheet to record your work. Show all of the steps of the process when solving to find the answer. 12 34 Peter Penguin collected forty-two fish on Monday and forty-four more on Tuesday. How many cans did Ned collect all together? Paula Polar Bear caught thirty-six snowflakes on her tongue before noon and another twenty-eight after noon. How many snowflakes did Paula receive total? While skating, Ben did sixty laps around the lake in the morning and twenty-two more in the afternoon. How many laps did Ben do total? Katie made thirty-five snowballs. If she made twenty-nine more for a friends, how many would she have total?

56 78 Percy the Polar Bear napped for thirty-four hours. If he napped another eight hours, how many hours would he have napped total? A store sold fifty-six cups of hot chocolate and thirty-four glasses of milk. How many drinks did they sell total? Jasmine counted eight penguins dancing on the ice. She then counted eighty-two more. How many dancing penguins did Jasmine count total? Haley had fifty-nine snowman buttons and her friend had thirty-five buttons. How many do they have to total?

910 1112 The arctic had ninety-seven penguins who could ice skate and two who could not. How many penguins did the arctic have total? There were eight people in line to skate when sixty- eight more got in line. How many people were there total in line? Robert built sixty-six snowmen last year and thirty-three this year. How many snowmen did Robert build total? The sky had seventy-five falling snowflakes. Later, twelve more fell to the ground. How snowflakes fell in all?
