PARDONER’S TALE Avarice: extreme greed. Also, the root of evil.(Pardoner is guilty of this!)

PARDONER’S TALE Plague: the black death. Killed thousand of people in Europe during this time.

PARDONER’S TALE Seven sins which needed pardoning included: pride, avarice (greed), lust, anger, gluttony, envy, sloth

PARDONER’S TALE What do you think the old man is a symbol of? Is he death or simply an old man?

PARDONER’S TALE The three rioters swear to kill off death because he took their friend from them. While looking for death, they find a pile of coins under a tree. (Greed to follow, don’t worry!)

PARDONER’S TALE Two rioters decide to kill the other by stabbing him, but he tried to kill them by buying poison. All three end up dead. Moral of the story: Greed is the root of all evil.

IRONY Now, complete the irony side of the worksheet by identifying three examples of the three types of irony along with an explanation. This is due at the end of class. If you finish early, you can start on your vocabulary sentences.
