Political Cartoons Exaggerated images of a current issue, person or topic Use wit and humor to make a point They, although exaggerated, have some basis of fact (usually bias, negative)

What to look for Symbols: objects that stand for larger ideas

What to look for Exaggeration: body parts, facial features, etc. and many other objects will have exaggerated effects added to them

What to look for Labeling: Authors will use labels to emphasize the points of interest

What to look for Analogy: using two unlike situations in order to better understand the idea

What to look for Irony: showing what the situation is compared to what it should be

Your Mission In your group create your own political cartoon for the upcoming election Pick any issue, person, law, etc. that you want to represent (either for or against) Use computers to research if need be The class will be analyzing a couple at the end of class Must be appropriate
