No QD today Oct 6 Today: Ch 3 Notes – Intro to Vectors Homework: -Sci Argument Paper Scientific Argument Paper due tomorrow

No QD today Oct 7 Today: -The “Lab” -Vector Addition worksheet Homework: -Finish worksheet Vector Quiz on Oct 13

Constant Velocity Lab The real answer: Assumptions: You did not “make it easier” by making your ramp very shallow You did not bias your experiment to prove what you already believed (friction should make it stop) Real Answer: The ball has constant velocity because friction and air resistance are negligible across this short distance given the initial velocity of the ball

Evidence:

1.5.9km, 6degrees 2.13.6m/s, 6 degrees 3.74m, 10 degrees 4.36N, 352 degrees 5.Y=40.8m/s, x=19m/s

Question of the Day #13 Semiquantitative Reasoning: Draw a quick SKETCH of this situation and ESTIMATE the resultant. A row boat is crossing the bay at 5m/s following a path at 0°. A current is hitting the row boat at 35°. The current is 12m/s. What is the velocity of the row boat? Now, what would happen if a 8m/s wind coming from 90° (blowing toward 270°) hit the boat. Describe semiquantatively what would happen to the velocity of the boat. Oct 8 Today: Resolving Vector Notes Homework: -Start Ch 3 Homework #1 Ch 3 Homework #1 due Oct 13 Vector Quiz on Oct 13

Question of the Day #14 A small cart is rolling at constant velocity on a flat track. It fires a ball straight up into the air as it moves. After it is fired, what happens to the ball? Why? Sketch the situation to help prove your point. Oct 14 Today: Turn in Test Corrections Homework: -None when viewed from train when viewed from ground

No QD today Yesterday’s QD #14: A small cart is rolling at constant velocity on a flat track. It fires a ball straight up into the air as it moves. After it is fired, what happens to the ball? Why? Sketch the situation to help prove your point. Oct 15 Today: Projectile Motion Notes & Practice Problems Homework: -None when viewed from train when viewed from ground

Question of the Day #15 Practice Problem 3-4. A football is kicked at an angle θ=37.0° with a velocity of 20.0m/s. Calculate a) the maximum height, b) the time of travel before the football hits the ground, c) how far away it hits the ground, d)the velocity vector at its maximum height, and e) the acceleration vector at maximum height. Assume the ball leaves the foot at level ground and ignore air resistance and rotation of the ball. 14 It should look like this! Wrap the power cable to the right. The green light near the plug should be on. The red dot above the word “ThinkPad” should be off and not blinking.

Question of the Day #16 A tennis ball is tossed over a fence from 4.5m below the top and 5.0m away from the bottom of the fence. If the ball just perfectly clears the fence with no room to spare, how fast is it going when it clears the fence? (Hint: find v y0 first then use that to find time) This will help with HW problem 22.
