3 A Safe Approach Information Gathering Commences from the initial call – questioning And continues throughout via:- Arrival at scene and scene assessment – site POC Vehicle placard schemes – unique substance identifiers Confirmation of details and cross referencing A Safe Approach Hazard Manager ‘FireMet’ Scene Management Support Specialist Support – ‘CHEMET’, ‘DSTL’, ‘AWE’, ‘NPIS’, PH etc.

16 FRS Front Line Capability Geographically spread across the three respective FRS in Wales, the following capabilities are available – Survey Meters (Frontline appliances & IRU’s) Electronic Personal Dosimeters (Frontline appliances & IRU’s) Gas Detectors (IRU’s & FRS procured provision risk based)

17 RADOS 200

18 Although the RADOS 200 will detect both gamma and beta radiation (with appropriate probe attached), it cannot positively identify the isotope emitting the beta particles or the gamma emissions. The RADOS 200 does not detect neutron emissions or alpha particles and therefore cannot be used as a reliable indicator that an area is free from alpha or neutron radiation.

19 Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD)

20 The EPD is capable of measuring Gamma dose as: Personal absorbed accumulated dose in either μSv or mSv. This displayed as H10 on the LCD screen. Personal dose rate in either microSieverts/hour (μSv/h) or milliSieverts/hour (mSv/h). Although capable of measuring beta particles the EPD is expected to be worn inside any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD)

24 The Impact Pro can continually and simultaneously monitor: The Oxygen concentration within the atmosphere measured by percentage volume in air The presence and concentration of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulphide measured in parts per million (ppm) The presence of flammable gases measured in % of Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) The Impact Pro is calibrated for Methane.

Unit 2 Oxygen, LEL (Methane)*, Chlorine and Ammonia. *Explosimeter function calibrated to Methane’s Lower Explosive Limit (LEL)
