Do Now Solve the inequality and come up with a real world scenario that fits the solution. Also Pick up a textbook
3
11.1 Sequences and Summation Notation
4
A sequence is a set of numbers in a specific order. It is a function whose domain is the set of natural numbers. a 1 = first term a n = nth term n = term number
5
Find the first 5 term & the 100 th term for:
6
Write the formula for the following sequences: -2, 4, -8, 16, -32, … 2, 4, 6, …
7
Recursive Formulas Defines the terms in a sequence by relating each term to the ones before it. EX: a 1 = 3, a 2 = 8, a n = a n-1 + a n-2 Find the first 5 terms
8
Fibonacci Sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, … This is used to solve problems about breading of rabbits, branching of trees, etc. (pg 826) Write a recursive formula for the Fibonacci sequence.
9
Explicit Formulas Express the nth term in terms of n. Can be used to find the value of a term without knowing the previous term. Find a link between the term number and the term value. EX: write an explicit formula for 2, 4, 6, 8, … EX: 3, 5, 7, 9, …
10
Summation Notation Read as “ the sum of a k from k = 1 to k = n.”
11
Evaluate
12
Write in Sigma Notation
13
pg 830 #2-16 even, 23-30, 40-46 even, 54-58 even, 59-66 all
