After this in-service, you’ll be able to… 2 Describe an overview of key Final Food Rule changes being implemented October 1, 2015. Explain to participants the addition of yogurt and what is allowed. Explain to participants how to choose 100% whole wheat pasta. Describe the changes to the food list beginning October 1, 2015.

Addition of Yogurt 4

5 Addition #1: Standard yogurt for children 1-2 will be whole fat. Starting 10/1/15

Whole Fat Yogurt 6 Children aged 1-2 will get whole fat yogurt. Only those listed in the food list in 32 oz containers. Nancy’s – Plain Honey Mountain High Original – Plain or Vanilla Dannon All Natural – Plain Do not buy: Organic, Greek, single serving

7 Standard yogurt for children 2-5 and women will be reduced fat. Starting 10/1/15

Low-Fat/Fat-Free Yogurt 8 Women and children over age 2 will get lowfat/fat free yogurt. Only those listed in the food list in 32 oz containers. Nancy’s – Plain or Vanilla Mountain High – Plain or Vanilla Dannon All Natural – Plain or Vanilla Yoplait Original – Vanilla, Strawberry, Peach or Strawberry Banana. Any brand plain Do not buy: Organic, Greek, single serving

Education 9 Educate participants on: Proper storage of yogurt Use by dates How to tell the difference between whole and reduced fat

Reasons for addition 10 Federally allowed with final food rule Desirable milk alternative for those who might not otherwise drink sufficient amounts of milk Good source of priority nutrients

11 Starting 9/1/15 for October checks, to select yogurt in WISPr: In Add food package click the yogurt checkbox Food packages with yogurt will have a Y in the name (4Y110) One quart of yogurt will replace one quart of milk Food Package Selection

15 Addition #2 100% Whole wheat pasta is an option under whole grains. Starting 10/1/15

Options… 16 12-16 oz size box or bag of any shape dry pasta No bulk 100% whole wheat pasta – the only ingredient must be “whole wheat flour or whole durum wheat flour”. Any size less than 16 oz size would not provide the full nutrition benefit

Education 17 Educate on: Whole grain versus 100% whole grain/wheat Reading labels to ensure getting 100% whole wheat or 100% whole durum wheat flour” Whole wheat pasta is one of the whole grain options

Cereal Changes Great Grains Cinnamon Hazelnut has been discontinued Great Grains Banana Nut Crunch has been added to the Idaho WIC approved cereal list 23

Changes to CVV and formula 25

Increased CVV for Women Starting 10/1/15 The CVV for women is increasing to $11 Except for women receiving food package 7M - the CVV amount increases to $16 and $17 with the amounts alternating every other month (due to Federal amount is $16.50 per month average) The soy-based contract formula will be Gerber Good Start Soy 26

Let participants know what’s happening! 27 Inform participants of the upcoming change starting in September. Review vouchers before you hand them to participants and let them know what’s changed.
