ACO & AD0 DCS Status report Mario Iván Martínez

LS1 from DCS point of view Roughly halfway through LS1 now – DCS available through all LS1, as much as conditions (EL, Cooling) allow. Major topics for DCS during LS1 are: – M igration to WinCC OA 3.11 (from PVSSII 3.8) – Upgrade to newer OS (WS2008, SLC6) – Validate all existing and new tools in new environment – Replace obsolete hardware (new severs, new DB, phase out PCI, …) – Rationalize our installations in CR3 – Preparation for RUN2 operation (issues from Consolidation Task Force, new shifter training, …) 35th ALICE DCS Workshop26 March 2014

LS1 highlights up to now DCS running virtually untouched until May (when DAQ switched off) – Many post-run1 activities that required DCS operational Migration ‘tests’ started summer 2013 – Many issues discovered, thorough preparation to ease the process as much as possible for detectors, at the same time profiting to do major cleanup Major maintenance on Point 2 cooling infrastructure (phase 1) – Essentially no cooling from June to October – Significant increase in cooling power at P2, complete update of cooling control systems Replacement of obsolete UPS infrastructure – Many power interruptions from June to September

Migration phases Phase I (detector expert): preparing the project for the migration Phase II (ALICE DCS support): install Windows Server 2008, WinCC OA 3.11, applications (on request) Phase III (detector expert): install project, Framework, test and commissioning Important: – Use the guide and checklist available in https://espace.cern.ch/alicecontrols/DCSDocuments/default.aspx https://espace.cern.ch/alicecontrols/DCSDocuments/default.aspx – Always communicate to alice-dcs-support@cern.ch (JIRA)alice-dcs-support@cern.ch

New UPS power Before: – 60+80 kVA UPS power for CRs (>90% loaded, regularly causing problems) CR1, CR2: only core of DAQ and HLT on UPS CR3: all DCS on UPS CR4: only critical systems (e.g. BCM, TPC drift HV) on UPS After: – 200+500 kVA UPS power for CRs CR1: all DAQ on UPS CR2: production part of HLT on UPS CR3: all DCS on UPS CR4: all racks (notably all detector HV power supplies) on UPS 35th ALICE DCS Workshop26 March 2014
