1. Rostow’s modernisation theory Use theories of development to help explain why societies develop over time, including Rostow’s modernisation theory and dependency theory. Before looking at Rostow’s Modernisation Theory we need to understand what is meant by the different types of employment.

What you have to do is; 1.Work out which order they go in? 2.Try and come up with a description of what may be happening in each stage in terms of a country’s development. 9. Criticisms of Rostow’s Theory? Can you think of any criticisms of the theory? Main ones: -Outdated (1960) and too simple. -Not all countries follow the same path of development. Some may skip sections. -Model assumes all countries start off the same and all have the same population, resources and climate. -Model doesn’t look at how the development of some countries (e.g. the UK) was at the expense of others during colonization.
