5. Self-Service Financial Aid Overview
Self-Service Financial Aid was licensed to the NC Community College System on December 16, 2015.
Self-Service Financial Aid requires three components to be completed before use.
IT staff must complete two components before implementing Self-Service Financial Aid:
1. Software installation
2. Software configuration
All items in section 2 must be completed before setting up and using the new Self-Service Financial Aid.
The third and final step is the application setup and configuration, which is performed by the Financial Aid Office.

Directions for Students to Access Self-Service Financial Aid:
As your college begins to consider changes in communications to students, college staff must consider how students are directed to Financial Aid Self-Service. The following instructions will provide a SAMPLE of how this may be delivered (steps may differ for each college):

Log in to WebAdvisor.
Click the Students menu.
Select Financial Aid Checklist.
Select the 2016/2017 award year.
To view information about your Financial Aid eligibility, select the Financial Aid tab.

ALPA & ALTR
In order for the Award Letter to be visible in Financial Aid Self-Service, you must run the Award Letters (ALTR) process.
If your college runs the Express Corresp. Processing (PCEX) process to generate an reminder and ALTR is not generated, your college may want to consider a change in workflow.
The setup on the Award Letter Parameters (ALPA) form will dictate the output on ALTR and ultimately the output on Self-Service. For more information, refer to page 21 of the complete guide titled Colleague Self- Service: Setting Up Financial Aid (November 25, 2015).

In order for the award letter to be viewable in Self Service, the S.PRINT.ALTR subroutine must be associated with the award letter. It will necessary to generate the award letter via ALTR to allow the award letter view in Self Service.

The ALTR process must be generated for the award letter to be visible on the FA Self-Service dashboard. If your college does not currently use ALTR, you must complete setup on ALPA and ALRT during FA annual setup.
