Driving Innovation Fuel cells manufacturing and supply chain Proposed outline for competition for funding
2
Driving Innovation Objectives Support fuel cell sector in developing manufacturing capabilities Develop a UK supply chain for components at a stack and system level Provide visibility of the market opportunity to new suppliers to the sector Reduce the risk inherent in forming new partnerships 2
3
Driving Innovation Format Integrated feasibility studies followed by CR&D Up to £1m for £25k (grant) feasibility studies Opens November 26 th closes January 2013 4 month feasibility studies Results presented at collaboration event Then ~£4m for CR&D projects to take promising opportunities to next stage of development 3 Feasibility study competition November 2012 FS Projects April 2013 Collaboration Event Autumn 2013 CR&D competition £4m Autumn 2013 CR&D projects From 2014 on
4
Driving Innovation Scope Fuel cells and electrolysers included Manufacturing capabilities for stacks and systems –New technologies and capabilities to enable scale up and cost reduction in manufacturing Component supply chain for stack, balance of plant and peripherals –New technologies and suppliers developing critical, strategic components More than one feasibility study led by the same business will be allowed, and indeed encouraged 4
5
Driving Innovation What to do now Identify potential areas where new capabilities would help scale-up and cost reduction in manufacturing Identify critical, strategic components that could be an opportunity for UK suppliers For potential suppliers identify the challenges for the fuel cell sector that your technology could solve Look out for webinars and collaboration events through the EGS KTN Currently - webinar on Electronics, Sensors and Photonics KTN on 2 nd November and collaboration event 23 rd November 5
6
Driving Innovation EU partner engagement In addition to main competition, up to £1m for feasibility studies on working with potential business partners in the EU Objective –As a precursor to engagement in EU funded projects –Partnership to enable EU market access –Capabilities not in the UK £100k grant, 6-12 months Portion of grant allowed as subcontract to EU business partner, or perhaps existing project 6
