2. What is Universal Design for Learning? Also known as, UDL Built upon 3 principles: 1) Multiple means of representation of content. 2) Multiple means of action and expression. 3) Multiple means of engagement. “UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone--not a single, one-size- fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs” (CAST.n.d).

3. What is Differentiated Instruction? “Differentiated instruction is a way to reach students with different learning styles, different abilities to absorb information and different ways of expressing what they have learned” (Robb.2014).

4. Compare & Contrast UDL Universal Design Learning meets the needs for special needs individuals but overall, the design works for everybody. For example: The sidewalk wheelchair ramps, they are designed and geared towards those who require and use wheelchairs, but the ramps actually benefit everybody. (Morrison.2011) Differentiation Getting to know and understand all the students individual differences. Their individual learning styles, multiple intelligences, disabilities and then building a lesson and incorporating educational tools that accommodate them all. For example: The think-tac-toes tool allows students to choose which activity they would like to do. This allows students to take responsibility for their own education and complete something they are comfortable with.

5. Blending the Concepts Into my Classroom How will I present new information? I am a firm believer that learning does not have to be boring to be effective, so I would use the following tools: 1) Individual whiteboards 2) Entrance and Exit cards 3) Think-tac-toe 4) Pass the ball 5) Walking through the pages 6) 3-2-1 summarize 7) Jigsaw These tools would not only allow my students to have fun while learning, it would also ensure that everybody has a say in their own education.

6. How will Students Demonstrate Their Prior Background Knowledge? I would begin each unit with a KWL chart. KWL stands for: 1)what do I Know 2)What do I want to learn 3)What did I Learn

7. Engaging Strategy Create lessons that are interactive and encourage the students to explore both within their comfort zones and outside of their comfort zones. Create lessons that encourage team-work (groups both large and small) as well as projects that require individual to work solo. Bring technology into the classroom. Smart technologies: IPads, laptops, etc. Interactive technologies: Promethean’s AvivBoards, etc.
