Peer mark your essays! To what extent did the nuclear arms race make the world a more dangerous place? What factors did you use?

Intro: Outline of the topic/context. Factors in order I will talk about them – Garibaldi 1st in Q. Set up the line of argument I will follow – strong link to Q Evidence! Academic language.

1. Point: Key message of paragraph 3. Explanation: Explain how your evidence supports your point. 4. Link: Sum-up how your paragraph helps to answer the overall question/link to argument. 2. Evidence: Facts/quotes/sources which illustrate your point How do I write a good PEEL paragraph? Have they been analytical all the way through – e.g. ‘most notably’ as well as a link?

Conclusion: Re-cap the key factors of the essay (without too much detail or repeating). Come to a firm judgement fully answering the question. Come back to the command words– use language which answers this. Length of entire essay – not that long! Give them some overall comments/improvements.

How successful was the Sino-Soviet Treaty in action? Lesson Aim: To judge the success of the treaty in dealing with situations in reality. TASK: Mini whiteboards – What was the Sino-Soviet Treaty of 1950?

How successful was the Sino-Soviet Treaty in action? There are two examples: 1.The Korean War, 1950-53 2. The Taiwan Straits Crisis of 1954-55 and 1958. You must explain: Where geographically/the situation/context e.g. what was Korean war? How did the event put the treaty to the test? How successful was it? If it was negative, why? What was the overall result? TASK: Create a poster with the key information on (you may want to decide what this is before you start drawing!) I will then photocopy you the best one of the other event for your notes!

Why was their a Sino-Soviet split in 1953? Lesson Aim: To assess why China and the USSR could not longer work together. TASK: Look at your source, model what you think your sources shows as the key reason for the Sino-Soviet split (you must be able to back this up with evidence!).

Mini whiteboards….. Do you think ideological or National interests were more responsible for the split? Do you think its fair to say that it was mainly down to the personalities of Mao and Khrushchev?

Homework – for Monday…… 1.Add key China dates from so far to your main time line and also make a separate China mini one we can add to. 2. Take notes on the Ussuri River Dispute, 1969. Make a profile with a map, key facts etc.
