Weather and Climate Weather: the condition of the air and sky at a certain time Climate: the average weather of a place over many years Altitude- as altitude varies, climate varies 1 factor for weather: the angle of sun rays hitting the earth Tropics: sun hits directly once a year so this area has a hot climate Winds: they bring moisture and produce storms and humidity Climates change as seasons change

Temperature A measure of how hot or cold the air is Temperature and precipitation: the two main ways to describe weather Polar Zones: Cold, high altitudes, sun’s below horizon mostly Tropics: Warm, low altitudes, sun hits directly most of time SI unit of temperature is the Kelvin – Boiling Point is 373 – Freezing Point is 273
