What is entrepreneurship? Definition: Capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make Profit. Who is an entrepreneur? Definition: One who has the capacity and willingness to do business and carry the risks of the same business to finally make profit for the current and the future? How does one manage the business? - By keeping all the records and books properly. Which are the records: Financial records – cash in, Cash Out and Profit/loss records. These will help the business owner to budget on the current and future for the business. Also help in improving on lessons learnt as the business grows and moves on. What are the characteristics of an entrepreneur?( participants should mention them) These are some: One must have an entrepreneurial mindset and skills One must have clear goals, has self-confident One must know the product, passionate and committed. One must have the right language for serving the customers One must take risk One must be open minded, innovative and creative. One must know how to sell the product. One must understand the need of the customers, does not give up in during tough times. One must know the features and benefits for the product. E.g features : stainless, insulated, mobile etc : benefits – Easy to clean, environmental friendly ( no smoke or pollution), retains heat for a longer time, save for the use by the children, convenient, easy to use etc. wPOWER Hub - Wangari Maathai Institute

Wambui had a busy month selling cook stoves. On 12 May she sold 2 charcoal hold cook stoves to her friend Mary for the flat fee of Kshs. 800/-. Later on she sold another 3 charcoal cook stoves on 16 th May. She was really excited. She kept walking round for customers. It was hard as most people hadn’t been paid yet. Finally on 25 th may she managed to sell 4 wood cook stoves at Kshs. 1,000/- each. The customers really liked her and even bought 5 packets of charcoal at Kshs. 150/- each Finally on 30 th may she managed to sell 2 charcoal cook stoves and 3 wood charcoals. How much money did Wambui collect in the process? Using the above template fill out the money that6 came into her business. Make sure to write them down in order of dates/time. Wambui had bought 5 charcoal cook stoves at kshs. 650/- each on 10 th May. She later bought 5 firewood cook stoves for kshs. 800/- each on 25 th may. People had been asking her to also sell charcoal. So she also had bought 6 packets as kshs. 70/- each for selling. Finally she bought 2 charcoal cook stoves and 1 fire wood stove on 27 th May. During the month, Wambui spent kshs 200/- on transport and Kshs. 200/- on reaching customers through airtime. How much money did Wambui use to buy her stock? This is a Profit since it is a positive Kshs. 3,780.00. Therefore in the month of May, Wambui made profit of Kshs. 3,780.00. This will even help her to budget for the next month since all the costs are captured in the financial tool templates.
