Philippine-American War After the Spanish American war, Spain gave its colony of the Philippines to the United States Philippine-American war last three years (1899-1902) and resulted in the death of over 4,200 Americans and over 20,00 Filipino combatants. 200,000 Filipinos civilians died.

Brutal war. The US burned villages, tortured suspected guerilla warriors, and forced Filipinos into concentration camps which one camp commander called “the suburbs of Hell.” Filipino fighters also tortured soldiers and terrorized civilians who cooperated with American forces
