Look at the pictures of Tangshan and San Francisco, describe what you see in the pictures. Qs: What will happen if there has been a big earthquake in these two cities? (beautiful cities; broad roads; tall buildings; large population)

Presentation: As we know, earthquakes are disasters to everyone. But can we avoid or minimize ( 减少 )the loss caused by earthquake? Now let’s see what may happen before an earthquake comes. How can we foretell earthquakes?

Discussion: (competition) Please look at the pictures on Pre-reading and try to mention the signs of an earthquake.

Walls of wells will have deep cracks. There will be bright light in the sky; Cows, dogs and pigs become too nervous to eat; Mice run out of the fields looking for places to hide. The water in the wells will rise and fall.
