Liquid nitrogen

Story about liquid nitrogen burn

Teen Gaby Scanlon freshman Academy Ripley St. Thomas was celebrating the 18th birthday with friends and had dealt with two bottles of alcohol containing liquid nitrogen, this chemical is extremely cold and only in temperatures between169-210c and start this article, evaporation when contact with air at room temperature and when she drank the bottle first, said Gaby that she did not feel anything, but I felt very severe pain in her stomach after her drink the second bottle and those bottles before the waiter because 18th birthday and she said that her boyfriend warned her of drinking these bottles and said that it may cause you a little gas but did not bother with it when her drink felt a severe illness and the pain began to double and could not talk and walk of pain and then they be or become a companion of her to hospital the doctor said that there is a large hole in her stomach and immediately entered the operating room and beyond The doctor said that liquid nitrogen did not cause perforation of the stomach, but stomach totally destroyed and removed the stomach and esophagus connected with intestines directly and spent three weeks in hospital and then five days,

- Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen in a liquid state at an extremely low temperature. - It is produced by fractional distillation of liquid air. - Liquid nitrogen is a colorless clear liquid with density of 0.807g/ml at its boiling point and dielectric constant of 1.43 - Liquid nitrogen is often referred to by the abbreviation “LN 2 ” or “LIN” or “LN” AND HAS the UN number 1997.

What is the liquid nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen discovery - Nitrogen was first liquefied at the Jagiellonian University on 15 April 1883 by Polish physicists, Zygmunt Wróblewski and Karol Olszewski.[5

Uses

- Liquid nitrogen is a compact and readily transported source of nitrogen gas, as it does not require pressurization. Further, its ability to maintain temperatures far below the freezing point of water makes it extremely useful in a wide range of applications, primarily as an open- :cycle refrigerant, includin

- Liquid nitrogen is used in the preparation of ice cream. - used in computer cooling process when breaking the processor that need high- speed cooling process uses liquid nitrogen to keep the.processor at a temperature below zero - used to treat warts on the skin (benign skin tumors)

Handling Liquid Nitrogen

- Always read the container label prior to use - Cryogenic liquid containers must always be stored in the upright position - Cryogenic liquids should not be handled in open pail-type containers or in unapproved dewars. - Transfer of liquid into warm lines or containers must be done slowly to prevent thermal shock and possible buildup of pressure.

Precautions : - Always wear safety equipment, including heavy loose fitting leather or cryogenic gloves, and eye and face protection. - High concentrations of escaping gas should not be allowed to collect in an enclosed area. - Avoid prolonged breathing of cryogenic liquid vapors.

- Avoid rough handling of liquid containers - Liquid cylinders should only be moved with proper handling equipment. - to use, ensure the fittings on the regulator match the fittings on the liquid container - Never use adaptors - Never attempt to change or remove any fittings

Transporting LN 2 containers

- containers must always be stored in the upright.position - LN 2 cylinders vary in wight and size, they are all heavy and cumbersome. - do not roll, either vertically or horizontally - always use the specially designed cylinder cart when moving LN 2 cylinders

Personal protective equipment(PPE )

When working with LN 2 the recommended PPE includes: - eye protection full face shield with safety goggles is best - heavy, loose-fitting leather or cryogenic gloves. - lab coat. - long pants. - closed toe shoes
