NATIONAL EAGLE SCOUT ASSOCIATION NESA IS AN ORGANIZATION FOR ALL EAGLE SCOUTS. EVEN IF YOU DO NOT JOIN, YOU SHOULD REGISTER SO YOU ARE RECOGNIZED WITH ALL FELLOW EAGLES. MEMBERSHIP IS A PRIVILEDGE OFFERED TO VERY FEW. YOU CAN BE ONE OF US.

THE PROJECT MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ORGANIZATION BENEFITING FROM THE EFFORT, YOUR SCOUTMASTER AND TROOP COMMITTEE, AND THE COUNCIL OR DISTRICT BEFORE YOU START. 3. GET APPROVAL SIGNATURES FROM THE TROOP AND BENEFITING ORGANIZATION. SCHEDULE A REVIEW WITH THE ABNAKI DISTRICT EAGLE REVIEW BOARD. THE BOARD MEETS THE LAST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH AND YOU SHOULD CONTACT THEM AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE. Getting the Project Approved

APPEAR IN C OMPLETE UNIFORM. PRESENT A WELL-PLANNED AND ORGANIZED WRITE-UP IN THREE COPIES. WRITE-UP MUST BE WORD PROCESSED, PROOFREAD AND CLEAR. TROOP AND BENEFITING ORGANIZATION SIGNATURES MUST BE PRESENT. EACH SECTION OF THE PROJECT APPROVAL MUST BE COMPLETED. WHAT THE EAGLE BOARD EXPECTS:

PRESENT CONDITION DESCRIBE WHAT THE AREA, FACILITIES, CAPABILITIES OF YOUR INTENDED PROJECT ARE NOW. EX: THE ROCK WALL IS 86 FEET LONG, WITH THE STONES NO LONGER STACKED. THE SLOPE OF THE FIELD HAS CAUSED EROSION THROUGH SEVERAL AREAS….

METHODS YOUR METHODS ARE THE PLANS, DRAWINGS OR DESIGNS OF ANYTHING YOU ARE PLANNING ON BUILDING ALONG WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED. MAKE SURE THE DESIGNS ARE ACCURATE AND TO SCALE.

MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES MATERIALS ARE THOSE THINGS SUCH AS LUMBER, NAILS, SCREWS, CEMENT THAT BECOME A PART OF THE FINAL PROJECT. SUPPLIES ARE EXPENDABLE ITEMS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE WORK SUCH AS GAS, WATER, GLOVES, SAND PAPER. TRANSPORTATION WHO WILL BE TRANSPORTING PEOPLE? WHO WILL BE TRANSPORTING MATERIALS? EX: – PUBLIC WORKS WILL DELIVER LOAM TO THE WORKSITE – MY FATHER WILL PICK UP AND DELIVER WOOD FROM THE STORE TO WORKSITE

SAFETY DESCRIBE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS NECESSARY FOR WORKERS AND BYSTANDERS ANTICIPATE ACCIDENTS THAT COULD RESULT FROM THE WORK DESCRIBE SAFETY REGULATIONS THAT APPLY TO THE EQUIPMENT TO BE USED EX: – ANYONE USING THE TABLE SAW WILL BE 16 OR OLDER, MUST WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES AND EAR PROTECTION. THE SAW MUST HAVE ALL SAFETY GUARDS IN PLACE AND WILL HAVE A GROUND PLUG. – A FIRST AID KIT WILL BE NEARBY

BEFORE SITE PHOTOS PROVIDING PHOTOS OF THE AREA WILL HELP THE EAGLE BOARD SEE YOUR VISION OF THE PROJECT MUCH EASIER. PHOTOS ALSO CAN BE COMPARED TO THE FINISHED PROJECT

PROJECT APPROVAL WHEN THE EAGLE BOARD IS SATISFIED THAT THE PROJECT IS THOROUGHLY PLANNED, THEY WILL SIGN YOUR WORKBOOK AT THIS POINT, THE PAGE SHOULD HAVE 4 SIGNATURES: – BENEFITTING ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVE – SCOUTMASTER – TROOP COMMITTEE MEMBER – EAGLE BOARD MEMBER WORK ON THE PROJECT CANNOT BEGIN UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL 4 SIGNATURES

CARRYING OUT THE PROJECT REMEMBER, YOU ARE THE MANAGER!! NOT A WORKER. YOUR JOB IS TO LEAD, DIRECT, SOLVE PROBLEMS (YES, THERE WILL BE SOME), AND KEEP PEOPLE SAFE. KEEP DETAILED RECORDS OF: – MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES – FINANCES WITH RECEIPTS – TIME VERSUS WHAT YOU PLANNED – WHAT WENT WRONG AND HOW YOU CORRECTED IT – KEEP A PEN AND NOTEBOOK IN YOUR POCKET TO RECORD IMPORTANT INFORMATION GET LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS!

COMPLETING THE PROJECT HAVE ANY IMPORTANT CHANGES APPROVED BY THE EAGLE BOARD TAKE LOTS OF “AFTER” PHOTOS INCLUDING ONE OF YOUR PROJECT SIGN IN PLACE HAVE BENEFITTING ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVE SIGN YOUR WORKBOOK AT COMPLETION FILL OUT A NESA DATASHEET-YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED BEFORE THE EAGLE BOARD WITHOUT IT FILL OUT YOUR EAGLE APPLICATION AND SUBMIT IT TO THE COUNCIL

PITFALLS PROCRASTINATION! MAKE A TASK LIST AND PUT DATES NEXT TO EACH ITEM. YOU ARE THE ENGINE THAT MAKES THIS PROJECT GO. JUST DO IT! LACK OF PLANNING. TIME MANAGEMENT. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT. DON’T PLAN ON BUILDING THE PANAMA CANAL. THINK WITHIN YOU CAPABILITIES. DON’T MAKE PLAN CHANGES WITHOUT GETTING APPROVALS.

THE FINAL EAGLE BOARD! THE EAGLE BOARD WILL CONTACT YOUR SCOUTMASTER TO SCHEDULE YOUR EAGLE BOARD OF REVIEW. PREPARE YOUR FINAL REPORT. THE BOARD WANTS 3 COPIES, YOU NEED ONE. PRESENT YOURSELF BEFORE THE EAGLE BOARD IN FULL UNIFORM. BRING YOUR COMPLETE NESA DATA SHEET YOUR REVIEW WILL COVER YOUR PROJECT, YOUR YEARS IN SCOUTING AND YOUR FUTURE PLANS. IT’S OK TO BRING NOTES.
