6 www.dataproject.com Enter Team Rosters into the database In the code box use the abbreviation for the team, or something you will easily recognize Enter the players Jersey Number, ID (ex. L for Libero) Code (We recommend the 1 st three letters of the last name followed by the 1 st three letters of the first name.) Enter the last (Family) and first name. 7 www.dataproject.com Scouting your first match Click ‘New Match’ Name the match –Hint: Keeping your files neat and organized is very important in the long run. Create a system that works for your program, such as YYYY-MM-DD_HomevsGuest which will organize files first by year, then month, then day Decide where you will save your video files. You may decide to save your film to an external hard drive to save space on your computer. If you choose to do this, create a folder named Dvs_Video on the External HD so that Data Video will automatically pull and save the films Click ‘New Match’ Name the match –Hint: Keeping your files neat and organized is very important in the long run. 10 www.dataproject.com Note!!!! –If you are burning from a DVD your computer will most likely not have enough RAM to compress the film while ripping it from the disk. –Do NOT check the box where is says ‘compress the video’ Choose only to copy the video into the folder and then you can compress the film after. Trying to compress and copy will cause your computer to freeze often.

12 www.dataproject.com If you are a Data Volley user, then you don’t need to scout the match from within Data Video because you can import the live scout file you created in Data Volley DATA VOLLEY USERS Under scout choose ‘Import from Path’ Click on My Computer Click on your C Drive Open your Data Project Folder, then Data Volley 2007, then seasons, then the season you are working in, then the Scout folder

13 www.dataproject.com DATA VOLLEY USERS Locate the appropriate scout file and click Open Select Synchronize the file now and click ok Manipulate the film so that it is aligned with the first serve of the match. Play the film and press Align Video no. 1 Data Video Essential aligns the time stamps from your live scout with your film.

You may need to watch some of the film to find this information. 22 www.dataproject.com Timing it Right. Keep in mind when you are scouting that being as consistent as possible will help you get the maximum benefit from this program. Some cues that you may find helpful: Serves –Press F1 to indicate serve when the server presents the ball, cutting out any chasing or bouncing End of rally –Press page up or page down (page up indicating the far team wins the rally and page down indicating the near team wins the rally) AFTER the ball is dead and the teams have huddled Keep in mind when you are scouting that being as consistent as possible will help you get the maximum benefit from this program. 26 www.dataproject.com The Code It is important to have some understanding of the code that Data Video uses. $$ translates best as ‘Team’ ‘a’ will always refer to the oppoenent team. ‘*’ will always refer to the home team. ‘S’ refers to Serve ‘R’ refers to Receive ‘p’ refers to Point ‘z’ refers to setter ‘H’ refers to ‘high’ which is the tempo, or type of serve ‘+’ refers to the rating of the pass or serve (Not used in Data Video Essential, but still displayed due to it being a default.) Remember these keys as you are scouting your first few matches: Setter zones are very important - this is what produces rotation tapes Pressing F1 to indicate serves and Pg Up or Pg Dn to indicate End Rally at the correct time will give you consistent rallies This makes watching film more efficient Take the time to become familiar with the program.
