8. Stanzas A Group of lines in traditional poetry. What Bugs Me When my teacher tells me to write a poem. When my mother tells me to clean up my room. When my sister practices her violin while I’m watching TV. When my father tells me to turn off the TV and do my homework. When my brother picks the fight and I have to go to bed early. When my teacher asks me to get up in front of the class and read the poem I wrote on the school bus. stanza In essays we have paragraphs, in poetry we have stanzas.

9. Stanza types Couplet = 2 lines Tercet or triplet = 3 lines Quatrain = 4 lines

10. Enjambment Enjambment is about the white space of a poem, the spaces in between and at the end of lines. Formal definition: when a poet stops a line and starts a new line, without regard for punctuation. Check out the poems on pages 38 & 39 in the poetry anthology. Why do you think each of the poets created enjambment where they did throughout his or her poem.

12. Free Verse Poems that do NOT follow a fixed pattern, format or scheme. Typically free verse poetry lacks rhyme or a fixed rhythm.
