Yasmin and Alexandrea’s Walk Through the Rainforest By:Yasmin and Alexandrea
2
What is a rain forest ? A rainforest is a area that is always humid, misty and noisy. Most of the animals live in the rainforest. Its covered in trees and bugs in the forest floor, understory, canopy, and emergent layer.
3
Location of Rain Forests They are found in Central America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. They are also found on the islands of Hawaii and Madagascar.
4
EMERGENT LAYER The emergent layer emerges above all the other trees. Some of the animals that live in that layer are the harpy eagle, pygmy glider, sloths, monkeys, and parrots. Some of the trees of the emergent layer are the Kapok tree and the Brazil nut tree.
5
Canopy Layer The canopy layer is above the forest floor and the understory. The animals that live here are humming birds, sloths, monkeys, and jaguars.
6
Sloth The sloth lives on the canopy layer and eats leaves, buds, and twigs. They mostly hang upside down from a tree. The moms have a pouch for their young babies.
7
Understory Layer The under story layer has animals of different kinds living in that layer. They are macaws, grasshoppers, tree porcupines, monkeys, and katydids. It only has smaller trees and some shrubs.
8
Forest Floor The forest floor is a home to the anteaters, capybaras, jaguars, snakes, and many other animals. Some of the plants are the rafflesia and ferns.
9
Anteaters Anteaters live on the forest floor and can swim when it is flooded. The giant anteater can be five to seven ft. long and 40 to 100 pounds. They have poor vision a keen sense of smell.
10
Deforestation Trees are getting chopped down every day. For paper, fire wood, farming, houses, and roads. They are even setting fires to clear trees for a lot of empty space. Less trees means less oxygen.
11
People of the rainforest The people that live in the rainforest paint their faces depending on their tribe. They get their food and spices in the rainforest.
12
All the animals Animals are all around making really noisy sounds And the animals of the rainforest are sticky and icky And some of the animals are really picky no matter the time and no matter the day.
13
Conclusion We hope you enjoyed our slide show. Also we hope from this you could make a difference for the rainforest.
