Quadratic Inequalities First day: Review inequalities on number lines. Review inequalities of linear equations Review inequalities of systems of linear equations. Do inequalities of quadratic functions.
2
Quadratic Inequalities Second day – Inequalities of Quadratics: (using Set B on pages 100 & 101) Are the points part of the solution set? Match graph to equation (1 – 3) Match system of inequalities to graph (13 – 18) Solve algebraically (22 – 31)
3
Steps to Solve Inequality Algebraically 1. Set the equation equal to zero 2. Find the zeros, which breaks the x-axis into three parts 3. Put the inequality sign back into the equation. 4. Select a value of x in each part from step 2, put it into the original equation, and see if each value of x makes the equation true or not
4
Quadratic Inequalities Third day – Inequalities of Quadratics: Graph the inequality (4 – 12) Graph system of inequalities (19 – 21) Solve graphically (32 – 35)
5
Steps to Solve Inequality Graphically: 1. Set the equation equal to zero 2. Find the zeros, which breaks the x-axis into three parts 3. Graph 4. Put the inequality sign back into the equation. 5. Look at the graph to determine values of x that satisfy the original equation

A projectile is fired vertically into the air. Its motion is described by h = -16t 2 + 320t where h is the projectile’s height (in feet) after t seconds. During what time interval(s) will the height of the projectile be below 1024 feet? During what time interval(s) will the height of the projectile be above 1024 feet?
