4 Virginia Standards of Learning 11/12.1. Demonstrate competence in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. (Motor Skill Development) 11/12.2 Apply knowledge of the structures and functions of the body and how they relate to and are affected by human movement to learning and developing motor skills and specialized movement forms. (Anatomical Basis of Movement) 11/12.3 Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of personal fitness. (Fitness Planning) 11/12.4 Demonstrate the aptitude, attitude, and skills to lead responsible, fulfilling, and respectful lives. (Social Development) 11/12.5 Explain the importance of energy balance and nutritional needs of the body to maintain optimal health and prevent chronic disease. (Energy Balance) The combination of these five strands leads students toward being able to lead an active, healthy lifestyle skillfully, knowledgeably, responsibly, and vigorously.

5 Physical Education Class Expectations  Athletic attire and proper shoes for physical activity are required. Rental athletic attire is available for.50 a piece.  The store can be found at https://patriotpe.itemorder.com Susan@hardhits.net 703-626-6517https://patriotpe.itemorder.com  Locker rentals will be available for 5.00. PATRIOT HIGH SCHOOL STAFF IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.  Jewelry, except for medical and religious items, should be removed to prevent possible injury;  If student is not properly dressed they will be sent to S.T.O.P.

6 Class Expectations  Students will be required to be physically active daily in class indoors and outdoors.  Students will be assessed daily for participation and effort.  Students will also be assessed on skill development, skilled movement, and knowledge of the game/sport.  Students will also take a written test and quizzes during and at the end of each sport unit.  Also in or out of class projects may be assigned as well.

8 Student Attendance Student attendance is expected for every class. If it is necessary for a student to be absent, excused, or receive medical modifications for their instruction, please refer to Regulation 636- 1 on the PWCS website. If you miss class you are responsible for any work missed.

9 Minor injuries and illnesses Students are expected to participate daily. Not feeling well and small injuries will not be an excuse for an individual to not participate in class. Students who are having an issue are expected to dress out as usual and speak to their teacher at the beginning of the class. The teacher will modify the daily activity.

10 Major injuries and illnesses Students with major injuries and illnesses will be dealt with on an individual basis. If a student is going to be out for more than 2 class periods a medical doctor will need to fill out the appropriate county medical excuse form found on the school fusion page in the teacher files. Students will be provided with the modifications/activities suggested on the form and/or will be provided with alternative written assignment. We have many options available to use that allow students to be involved in class activities in a modified format.

11 Late Work Policy  Students are expected to turn all work in on time, however if a student turns in an assignment late, the following will be the maximum grade a student will earn.  1-3 days late… 75% maximum credit  4-6 days late…60% maximum credit  7+ days late… 50% maximum credit

12 Grading Formative (10%)  PE: Weekly (FORMATIVE) grades will be earned on Standards 11/12.1 Motor Skill Development and 11/12.4 Social Development. Grades will be based on 100 points PER week in physical education. See rubrics below.

13 Grading  Summative 1 (90%)  PE: End of unit Assessment: Grades will be earned on Standards 11/12.1 Motor Skill Development. 11/12.2 Anatomical Basis of Movement, 11/12.3 Fitness Planning, and 11/12.4 Social Development. Rubrics will be available to students at the beginning of the unit.  Quarterly: Students will complete a “Sport/Lifetime Fitness Project” on Standard 11/12.3, and 11/12.5. *REMEMBER EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY*

14 Re-take Policy  Students are able to re-take Summative written assessments only.  You may not ret-test the last week of the quarter or after the quarter has closed.  Prior to re-taking the assessment the following qualifications must be met  The student may not have any missing or incomplete assignments.  This includes formative/summative 2 assessments, notes, classwork and homework.  If an assignment/assessment is missing or incomplete, they may complete it as part of the re- take process.  The student WILL NOT receive credit for that assignment in place of their previous grade. HOWEVER, they will become eligible for the re-take.  The student must complete the remediation assignment for the standard(s) being assessed.  This assignment must be obtained from the student’s teacher and completed prior to scheduling a date to re-take the assessment.  The student must submit the signed re-take form to the teacher. Re-take forms can be found on the teacher’s school fusion pages.  The student must schedule a date to re-take the assessment with their individual instructor.  Re-takes will be done during flex blocks and must be completed within 2 weeks of the original assessment.
