A: Practitioners Doctors = Medical Practitioners Medical practitioners must have a university degree in Medicine. Doctor who treats patients = Clinician Doctors who provide primary care = General Practitioner (GP) Family Doctor GPs usually work in a group practice Larger group work in a building called health centre Practise (v.) B: Specialties Specialist doctors, Paediatricians, generally work in hospitals. Doctors who work outside the NHS, providing private health care, may consulting rooms Two main branches of medicine are 1. Surgery = surgeons (male: Mr., female: Ms.) 2. Internal medicine = physicians (Dr.) An anaesthetic specializes in anaesthetics. Speciality ends in ology Specialist ends in ologist
